as important to the learning process as white boards and pencil sharpeners. Plymouth Community Schools demonstrate leading education technology
in some of the following programs:
• One-to-One MacBook initiative to be unveiled this fall at Lincoln Junior High School
• Wireless available throughout the corporation
• Project Lead-the-Way curriculum taught at Lincoln Junior High and Plymouth High School (pre-engineering)
• Curriculum partnerships with Indiana University and Purdue University
• Project-based Learning to be piloted in 2011
• New Tech School-within-a-School concept at Plymouth High School scheduled for 2012

Championship Opportunities in Athletics and Academics
Key to providing learning and leadership experiences for Plymouth students can be found in the variety of extracurricular programs available throughout their school
years. By the age of fourth grade, students will have an opportunity to get involved in clubs, academic- and athletic teams. These activities keep students healthy
and socially involved, preparing them for a thriving future. Some of the championship opportunities Plymouth schools have provided for its students to experience:
• Plymouth’s boy’s basketball team has won the state championship twice, finished runner-up once, and has had two Trester Award winners
• Plymouth’s girl’s basketball team has won the state championship once, finished runner-up once, and has had two Trester Award winners
• Plymouth’s football team has won the state championship once
• Plymouth’s cross country team finished second in the state and had the overall champion
• Plymouth’s volleyball team finished second in the state twice
• Plymouth’s baseball team was a state runner-up
• Plymouth’s track, swimming, tennis, and wrestling teams have consistently produced state finalists and state championship athletes
• In 2009-2010, more of Plymouth’s athletes were named all-conference academic than any other team in the NLC
• Plymouth’s Business Professionals consistently have individual state champions and national finalists - this year they won a national champion
• Plymouth’s music department has won the ISSMA Banner for all around involvement many years in a row
• Plymouth’s Winter Ensemble won the ISSMA State Championship this year
• Plymouth’s Speech Team has won 12 state championships, regularly has state and national champions, and has won the School of Excellence Award seven times
• Lincoln Junior High’s English Academic Team won the state championship

The source of academic and athletic success comes from excellent teachers and coaches who lead students and teams throughout their school days. Dedication to
high standards of talented and educated faculty at Plymouth Community Schools is demonstrated by some examples including:
• 66% of the teachers have a Master’s Degree
• Two teachers are National Board Certified: Kathy Richter and Anne Liechty
• Ten teachers have won the Lily Fellowship for Teacher Creativity: Herb Eveland, Anne Liechty, Daniel Tyree, Vicki Cook, Judy Harness, Janice Curtis, Mary Gifford, Michelle Holloway, Deb Wise, and Monty Peden
• One teacher has won a Fulbright to study in Africa: Monty Peden
• Three speech coaches have been recognized by the National Federation as District Winners: Daniel Tyree, Charlotte Tyree, and Dave McKenzie
• Mary Gifford has won the Armstrong Teacher Educator Award from Indiana University and was an Indiana Teacher of the Year Finalist.
• One speech coach was recognized by the National Federation as a Regional Winner: Daniel Tyree
• Four speech coaches have been voted into the State Speech Coach Hall of Fame: Daniel Tyree, Charlotte Tyree, Jane Faulstich, and David McKenzie
• One speech coach was voted into the National Speech Coach Hall of Fame: Daniel Tyree
• One speech coach was selected as National Coach of the Year: David McKenzie
• Five athletic coaches have been selected into the state’s Athletic Hall of Fame: Mary Beth Hunter, Tennis; Bob Read, Wrestling; Allen Shockney, Cross Country;
Bill Nixon, Baseball; Jack Edison, Basketball.
• One Plymouth coach was named National Coach of the Year: Jack Edison

Proven Track Record in Scholarships and Awards
Awards abound both in the graduates attending higher education and in the state and national awards received by the Plymouth Community School system. Plymouth’s seniors are frequently awarded with numerous scholarships. Annually, Plymouth graduates receive between 1.5 and 2.4 million dollars in scholarships.
Recently, Plymouth’s seniors have won full scholarships to Notre Dame, Northwestern, Indiana University, Ball State, Purdue University, Indiana State University, and
Valparaiso University.
In addition to the scholarships, Plymouth’s seniors have consistently won appointments to West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the Coast Guard
Academy. Plymouth’s seniors have been accepted into prestigious colleges and universities in and out of Indiana including:

Early Childhood Education and Care
Plymouth Community School is committed to offering safe and cost effective early childhood learning and care for all families. From pre-school and all day Kindergarten to tutoring and before and after school childcare, Plymouth Community Schools is dedicated to the diverse needs of each family.
• Full-day kindergarten regardless of budget cuts
• Limited space is available for pre-school opportunities
• Plymouth’s Latchkey Program for before and after school offers outstanding childcare at a low cost
• Bilingual aides are available to communicate with parents in all buildings
• Each elementary school offers a Welcome Center for parents to use free of cost
• All elementary schools offer back-to-school nights, Title I nights, migrant nights, and parent-teacher conferences each year
